1. Who do you roast coffee for?
Food Service, Wholesalers or Gourmet Coffee Wholesalers with Private Labels.
2. What is the minimum size order that you will handle?
For a Food Service Private Label, the minimum order is 1000 lbs/month if you'd like Colonial to invest in the packing material. If the customer provides the film, the minimum order is 380 lbs per item. For Gourmet Coffee orders, the minimum is 5 lbs/item and 20 lbs/order of Whole Beans packed in 5 lbs Valve Bags, volume disscounts apply. (Please call us for other packaging/grinding options).
3. Do you sell coffee to individual consumers?
Yes, only if you want 20 lbs of gourmet coffee! Please take a look at the Gourmet Coffee page.
4. What kinds of institutional blends do you carry?
We offer 100% Colombian Regular and Decaf, as well as American Regular and Decaf.
5. Which gourmet coffees do you have?
We carry a complete line of gourmet coffees available for volume purchase or at retail.
6. What kind of decaffeinated process does Colonial use?
Swiss Water Decaf in the Gourmet line & Methylene Chloride in the institutional coffees.
7. Can you develop a special blend for me?
Yes, of course. Just let us know the market which you are going after or you could also give us a sample of a coffee you want us to match in our lab.
8. What roasts do you produce?
Anything from Light to French. Using a Colorimeter, Colonial's laboratory experts can scientifically ensure that the color of the roast meets your exact specifications.
9. What grinds do you make?
Colonial can pack your coffee as whole beans or ground into various sizes. Espresso, Automatic Drip, All Purpose or Vending at Colonial, the choice is yours.
10. What packaging options do you offer?
Gourmet coffee can be packaged into 2 lbs or 5 lbs foil valve bags. We also offer foodservice/office coffee service fractional packaging (.5 oz to 32 oz), 1 lb, 2 lb, 5 lb glossine lined paper bags, plastic or foil bags with valves for grounds or whole beans. The coffee can also be packed into fully lined and sealed burlap sacks.
11. Which packaging option is best for me?
Valve packs are packed fresh from the roaster, sealing in the coffee aroma immediately. These valve bags allow degassing and keeps your coffee fresh longer. The most economical option for bulk purchase is our 70lb economy packaging, a fully plastic lined burlap bag that's sealed all the way across.
12. Can I use my own artwork?
Of course. You can provide us with your foils/films, or you can provide us with the artwork to make customized packaging for you. For colonial to invest in the packaging for your coffee, customers who order private label coffee from Colonial will have to make a private label agreement. This stipulates that if the customer ceases to purchase coffee from Colonial, the customer will buy all the packaging material in inventory within 30 days of purchase.
13. Will Colonial design my artwork for me?
Yes, Colonial's art department will help you make a label to best suite your marketing needs.
14. How long after roasting do you package your beans?
To ensure freshness, Colonial takes the freshly roasted beans into the cooling drum, and immediately into the packaging line. The process takes no longer than 15 minutess.
15. What kind of quality control does Colonial have?
Cupped at each stage of the roasting process, batches are sent to our lab on premise and cupped to ensure consistent quality.
16. How much time does Colonial need to turn around my order?
Lead time for the first order is 4 weeks after final artwork approval. For subsequent orders (depending on size), it may take up to 5 working days to process pack/prep the coffee and have it ready for shipment.
